Leinster Indoors JSM Championships 2019
Day 3 of the Leinster indoors took place in Abbotstown on the 2nd of March and we had some great results from our Juniors, Seniors and Masters.
Juniors
Matthew Rossiter 2nd Pole Vault 3.80m and Ger Kelly 3rd Shot Put 10.07m

Saragh Buggy 1st Triple Jump 13.09m and Nicole Kehoe Dowling 2nd a Shot Put 11.49m

Sharon Buggy 800m 2.55, Collette English 3rd 800m 2.40 and 1st 1500m 5.25, Liam Byrne 1500m 2nd 4.50, John Territ 2nd Long Jump 3.74m and 1st Shot Put 9.43m , Masters Women’s Relay 1st team, Mary Boylan. Deirdre Brennan, Sharon Buggy and Colette English.

Leinster Indoor Relays
On Sunday the 3rd of March, Day 4 of the Leinster Indoors, saw the team element come to the fore as St Abbans had 3 teams compete in the Leinster Relays. The competition is fierce at these events and all 4 teams battled to the line. Well done to all who competed. Also special thanks to bus driver and coach Patsy Baldwin for bringing the bus load of teams up to Abbotstown and negotiating the snow on the way home. It was a great day out for all our Juveniles competing.

National Masters Indoors
Well done to John Territt on winning the Weight for Distance with a throw of 6.36m. Following on from this, John’s throw of 9.67 secured him 2nd position in a tightly fought Shot Putt competition at the National Masters Indoors on March the 10th.

All Ireland Schools Cross County
Jack Fenlon had a fantastic run in the All Ireland Schools on Saturday 9th of March in Clongowes Wood. Jack was competing in the Minor Boys event where he finished in a brilliant 19th position in the colours of Colaiste Iosagáin, Portarlington. This was his first taste of All Ireland School’s athletics and no doubt there will be more to come over the next few years. Will Fox ran a strong race to finish 52nd in the Intermediate boys race. Will has been making steady improvements throughout the year.

National Junior Indoor Championship - 30th March
Well done to Maya Brennan National U14 High Jump Champion with a massive PB of 1.60m. What a super jump by Maya! High jump training takes place most weekends at the club. Anybody over 12 is more than welcome to join in and perfect the event under the watchful eye of Liam Kelly.

World Master's Championships
On the 25th March Stephen Hunter represented Ireland in Poland in the World Master's Championships.
Stephen had a fantastic race, finishing 10th over the 8km, leading the Irish team home in 2nd place.

Well done to both our men's and women's team who both took silver in the Laois Senior Road Race Championships. The racing was highly competitive and all medals were hard won.

Fit4Life
Another good month for the Fit4Life group with great numbers in attendance and people making steady progress while enjoying the atmosphere. This couch to 5K group hit another great milestone last night Monday 8th of April with participants completing 5k in traning. Well done to everyone that took part.
Best of luck to the group heading to Waterford this weekend, Saturday 13th, on a cycle tour day trip. A well deserved break from the running!
Fit4Life continues every Monday and Wednesday at 7.30pm as we continue to prepare for our own Fit4Life league starting on Wednesday May the 8th in Luggacurren.

There was strong showing from St Abban’s at the SLOT 5km & 10km in Carlow on Sunday 10th March. New and old members were out enjoying athletics as part of the St Abban’s family. It's lovely to see couch to 5k members running their first 5km and earning first medal. Well done to all who took part.
